A mother and daughter in their early twenties have discovered a way to get their own blood from a donor who is actually a little bit older than they are.
The pair, who want to remain anonymous, discovered they were able to do it after the blood bank they use for their own donation was unable to supply it to them.
“I was in the hospital with my kids and I couldn’t get my blood into my system because the blood transfusions had run out,” the mother said.
“So I called the blood banks and they said it was going to be a long time before we’d be able to get blood from them.”
The couple, who were on the verge of losing their lives, said they were also told their blood would be too expensive to get from a private donor.
“They said it would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and I was really upset because I had no idea how much it was,” the daughter said.
They were then contacted by a company called QQ Life, which was able to provide the couple with blood.
The family were so relieved, they said they felt they could no longer be silent about their situation.
“We didn’t want to put ourselves in harm’s way and we thought we could at least put it out there,” the mum said.
“We started to feel like a family, we started to cry a lot.”
The team has now raised more than $18,000 (£15,500) for the family.
The couple are now waiting to see what their results are, before they decide if they should continue their search for a donor.
